Waitsfield Seeks Bond to Build Town Offices

By Amy Kolb Noyes

On Town Meeting Day in Waitsfield, voters will decide whether to bond up to $1.6 million to build a town office building. The town offices are currently housed below the town library, on Bridge Street. If the bond passes, the town would purchase a lot on Route 100 where it would build new offices. The town estimates the project would take about three years to complete.

The bond vote will be held by secret ballot on March 5. On the same day, Town Meeting-goers in Waitsfield will be asked to establish an “agricultural support reserve fund” with an initial investment of $10,000. The fund would provide grants of up to $5,000 to agricultural property owners in the event of a disaster. Grant terms and criteria would be established by the select board.

Waitsfield was one of the towns hard-struck by flooding during Tropical Storm Irene.
