Voters in Cabot are being asked to decide whether to close the town’s small high school and offer school choice for ninth through twelfth graders. The question is on the warning for the annual Cabot School District meeting. That meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m on Monday, March 4, the evening prior to Town Meeting Day.
Article 5 on the warning asks, “Shall the Cabot School Board be directed to close the Cabot High School prior to July 1, 2013 and to provide for the high school education of the high school pupils (grades 9 through 12) residing in the District by paying tuition in accordance with law to one or more public high schools in one or more school districts, to an approved independent high school, or to an independent school meeting school quality standards, to be selected by the parents or guardians of the pupil, within or without the state?”
There are currently 59 ninth through twelfth graders enrolled at Cabot High School.
