Winds picking up

The winds of Hurricane Sandy are on the way.

Winds around Brattleboro and Bennington are steady at this hour at 12 to 13 miles per hour. And they’re gusting to 20 to 25 miles per hour.

There are similar gusts in the Rutland area.

Emergency management officials say winds are likely to cause damage throughout the region, including power outages.

Weather forecasters say they believe the worst winds, gusting to as much as 80 miles per hour, will come between dark and midnight.

But the weather will continue to be bad and the winds will blow strongly.
