The suspense is building over an announcement Thursday about big economic development plans in the Northeast Kingdom.
At the center of the buzz is Jay Peak president Bill Stenger who’s playing it close to the vest until it’s time to make the details known.
It appears Stenger will highlight a number of projects and that they’re likely connected to the EB5 foreign investment program recently extended by Congress.
Among the projects may be the next phase of expansion at Jay, as well as plans for Burke Mountain, which was recently purchased by Jay.
In Newport plans to use EB5 investments to bring South Korea’s AnC Bio to town have been in the works for a while and there may be further developments on that front.
Additionally, there’s long been talk of an ambitious waterfront development on the shores of Lake Memphramagog in Newport involving Burlington developer and Newport native son Tony Pomerleau.
Finally, it appears part of the announcement also concerns the nearby airport in Coventry, which wants to extend its runway to accommodate more traffic and is part of a hoped-for foreign trade zone.
It’s hard to tell if these projects and/or others will be highlighted
Governor Shumlin and Vermont’s Congressional delegation are scheduled to join Stenger on Thursday.
